Searching in style: Prepping for the next phase of summer sales

The summer sales season is in full swing. And there’s even more good news: Shoppers are still snapping up your best bargains and looking for even more deals in your online store.
As the sales continue, the number of items in stock will start to fall, and so it becomes imperative that your shoppers find the deals they came looking for.
Motive Commerce Search is the ideal solution. Not only does it give shoppers the same search experience they have when shopping with the biggest online retailers, but it also gives you the tools you need to optimise your shop and search.
Keep reading for 3 valuable tips that will help you make this summer sales season your most successful yet.
Make the most of remaining stock
As the sales continue, you may find that some of the remaining discounted items may be more difficult for shoppers to spot, but you can easily draw attention to them using the Motive Playboard.
You can use business rules to push certain products, creating specific rules to guarantee that when shoppers search for something specific, the items on sale with low stocks are prominently displayed in the search results. You can even create rules to boost products by their ID, crafting one for specific searches associated with that product.
For example, if you have a dress on sale with only a couple sizes left, create a boosting rule for specific searches for specific searches using the term “dress”, then select the ID of the dress you want to feature. This ensures it appears at the top of the results when shoppers search for dresses.
Let your shoppers know what’s on sale
During the long summer sales, it isn’t uncommon for new discounts to be applied, and you probably want everyone to know about them. As we go deeper into the summer sales and the discounts get bigger, you can use Motive Commerce Search to set up Banners that will ensure no one misses out on these deals.
Depending on your strategy, you can create Banners for all searches or only specific ones. Review the products you’re offering and get creative to promote them in the most visually appealing way.
Banners can also be useful for displaying some special offers you may have, and even products from new collections that could intrigue sales-seekers.
Integrate new collections
Although the current focus is on sales, it doesn’t hurt to position some of your new arrivals so that shoppers can get a sneak peek at your current collections. There are a couple tools in Motive Commerce Search that allow you to do just that.
You can add the products you want to promote to a Synonym list. Using popular terms for the sales season like “summer” or “sales” lets you weave specific products into search results that show on-sale products.
You can also do this by adding some of your current season’s products to the Business Bules feature that we mentioned earlier, so that they blend in with the items you have on sale.
Understanding how shoppers search
The best way to understand how your sales are going is by checking your analytics via your Playboard in Motive Commerce Search. This empowers you to respond appropriately, and apply tools that simplify the shopping experience.
The more you play with the Motive Playboard, use its features and check the Analytics to see the impact these tweaks to search results are having, the more you’ll understand how your shoppers search, allowing you to improve your shop’s search experiences even further.
