More customisation possibilities for your search layer

A shop’s search is what shoppers primarily use to find whatever they were looking for, and having it seamlessly integrated into your shop is a key aspect of their browsing and buying experience. That’s why Motive Commerce Search wants it to be as adaptable and state-of-the-art as possible.
All this points to Motive’s search layer now being based on Interface X Components, an open-source library with more than 150 components that enable mutual collaboration to customise search. This brings an improved performance with a composable experience that has design and innovation in its very core.
New Search Layer
Our new, streamlined search layer is built on Empathy’s X Components, a set of front-end components created with customisation in mind from their very conception. Simple-to-use and easily scalable, X Components are an open-source solution that allows Motive tech teams to react faster and implement changes more sustainably, helping shop owners to make the best of their search layer.
The benefits of them can be seen from the moment they’re implemented, being almost 30% lighter in bundle size and saving 0.35 seconds in making search operative. On top of that, metrics like the largest contentful paint and the total blocking time now take less than half the time they used to. It’s also a great opportunity to share documentation that can enable shop-owners to elevate their shops and make their search more human-centric.
But the most striking aspect of it is the limitless potential this has for Motive tech teams and shop-owners alike. All parties will now make the most of all the evolutions of the Interface X Components library due to the open-source nature of the project, being a joint effort to be enjoyed from developers to maintainers, and enabling your tech teams to contribute to the development of the solution.
X Components rely heavily on the collaboration of its contributors and how they align to offer an extensive and complete search layer that accommodates the needs of Empathy, Motive and all its users; and you can see how these principles are specifically applied in the public roadmap for the upcoming features.
For now, its implementation has an immediate effect on Motive’s new feature Banners and will gain even more momentum with the upcoming addition of a properly predictive layer, and the introduction of Top Products and Top Searches in future developments.
Collaboration is the key to success
Working with such a shapeable, open-source solution is not only what we believe in as a company, but also what you need to achieve a better experience for your users and more insights on how the search of your shop works.
Thanks to its implementation, we can all benefit from understanding how search is used by shop-owners, and how shoppers react to it. In return, you can take advantage of having a search experience that grows closer to you by the day, making your shoppers also happier.
